PostDoctoral Fellow (Full Time)

Location: Tampa, Florida Country: United States of America Rate: $56,484 - $80,000

Job Title: Postdoctoral Fellow
Institute: University of South Florida Health Heart Institute
Hiring Salary/Salary Range: $56,484 - $80,000

POSITION SUMMARY:

Postdoctoral fellowship positions are available in the lab of Dr. Kunhua Song in the Heart Institute at the University of South Florida Health. Research in Song Lab focuses on understanding mechanisms and signalling pathways that govern heart development and cardiovascular disease using a combination approach, human induced pluripotent stem cell-based platform and mouse models. Efforts during past years have allowed us to mechanistically understand cardiac cell fate commitment, congenital heart disease, and cardiomyopathy (Song et al., 2012, PMID: ; Zhao et al., 2015, PMID: ; Chi et al., 2019, PMID: ; Riching et al., 2021, PMID: ; Knight et al., 2021, PMID: ; Zhao et al., 2022, PMID:; Waugh et al., 2023, PMID: ; Chi et al., 2023, PMID: ). Building upon our previous studies, Song Lab is expanding its research program by recruiting highly motivated postdoctoral fellows who are interested in these topics: (1) Cell-cell communications in congenital heart disease, (2) mechanisms underlying cardiomyopathy and heart failure and therapeutics design, and (3) cardiomyocyte cell fate decision for heart regeneration.

Postdoctoral fellows are expected to develop projects with the PI. Postdocs are expected to demonstrate independence in the design, oversight, and implementation of the daily activities required for the conduct of the research program with guidance from the PI. The PI will work with the postdocs to ensure their career development and has an excellent track record of trainees who have transitioned to successful academic and industry positions.

DUTIES:

  • Independent project design with PI guidance.
  • Designing and performing experiments (including bench-level work, typically molecular biology, cell biology/tissue culture, and biochemistry).
  • Assisting with mouse colony breeding and animal experiments/surgery.
  • Operating and assisting with maintenance of equipment.
  • Assisting with training of colleagues as needed.
  • Maintaining records of experimentation and procedures in compliance with USF and NIH requirements.
  • Collection and analysis of data for presentation and publication with PI.
  • Preparation of manuscript for publication and grant application.
  • Participation in lab meetings, journal clubs, and work in progress.
  • Collaborating with other scientists, within the lab and institution as well as at other locations, to advance team goals.
  • Tracking the career development plan to advance your own career goals with PI guidance.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Doctoral degree from an accredited institution in medicine, biochemistry, microbiology, molecular and cell biology, immunology, developmental biology, stem cell biology, or related field. Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Postdoctoral Fellow.
  • Experience in the submission of manuscripts for publication.
  • Candidate must be self-motivated and independent and comfortable seeking and obtaining feedback from peers and colleagues.
  • The ability to manage numerous research studies simultaneously.

PREFERRED:
