Job Purpose

Asset Information Services (AIS) collects, analyses and shares data and intelligence about Network Rail's infrastructure assets and maintains some of Network Rail's key asset systems and tools. AIS data is used by asset managers, engineers, network infrastructure planners and maintenance teams to plan and deliver effective maintenance and renewals of railway assets. The primary aim of this project is to improve the locational accuracy of the Track Centre Line (TCL) in Network Model held within the Infrastructure Network Model

Reporting to the Data Manager you will undertake the management and maintenance of network and infrastructure data, providing assurance and analytical support for data management activities; provide technical expertise and a specialist analysis service to internal and external customers of network and infrastructure information.

Key Accountabilities

  • Deliver an effective and efficient network and infrastructure data management service
  • Undertake and support the management and maintenance of network and infrastructure data (schematic and geospatial in the appropriate core systems and libraries, in accordance with the applicable standards and work instructions
  • Undertake data assurance activities, identifying, investigating and reporting shortfalls in data and data quality and working with data providers and stakeholders to implement remediation activities
  • Provide technical and analytical support to the development and enhancement of relevant standards, processes, procedures and systems
  • Maintain accurate records of data provision, data maintenance and other activities and prepare data assurance, KPI and other management information reports
  • Support data improvement activities and plans through the provision of data analysis and other subject matter expertise; lead, participate in and report on data improvement activities as required
  • Working with relevant managers and stakeholders, identify future needs for network and infrastructure information, including those arising from commitments to external organisations
  • Act as the business specialist on network and infrastructure data; provide a data analysis service and technical expertise to customers and stakeholders of network and infrastructure information
  • Assist with other activities of the network and infrastructure data management team as required

Job Skills, Experience and Qualifications

Essential

  • GCSE grade C or above, or equivalent, in English and Maths
  • Proven knowledge of systems that are used to manage infrastructure asset
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and report writing skills
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Previous experience in schematic and/or geospatial Network data management activities
  • Proven working knowledge of GIS and/or CAD
  • Proven ability to work systematically and meet deadlines
  • Proven knowledge of computer systems that are used to manage infrastructure asset data

Desirable

  • Knowledge of schematic and geospatial network data relevant to the GB railway
  • Good knowledge of railway geography and operations
  • Working knowledge of Geospatial data management software packages
  • A level or equivalent, in a relevant subject
